Product Description

The stainless steel 304 continuous hinge has countersunk holes and is suitable for surface-mounted applications requiring uninterrupted support along the full length of the pieces being joined, such as appliance doors, industrial kitchen equipment, and metal storage cabinets. Stainless steel 304 resists corrosion up to 1,500 degrees F and is suitable for applications used in corrosive environments, though not as resistant to corrosion as stainless steel 316. A weldable material, stainless steel 304 is stronger than steel and aluminum. The bright annealed finish gives this hinge a mirrorlike appearance and offers additional protection against corrosion. This finished hinge is suited for applications such as cabinetry and piano lids where a polished hinge (as opposed to a flat finished or unfinished hinge) is a priority. The range of motion for this hinge is 270 degrees from the folded position. Continuous hinges, also called piano hinges, provide support to run the full length of the doors, panels, or pieces being joined together. They are manufactured in a variety of materials and sizes, with or without holes, finished or unfinished, and can be cut to specific sizes. They also vary by knuckle length, pin diameter, leaf thickness, and open width. The knuckle is the tubular part of the hinge through which the pin passes, and knuckle length is the measurement of an individual section. The pin runs the length of the hinge holding the leaves together. The leaf is the flat metal portion of the hinge that extends laterally from the knuckle and revolves around the pin. Open width is the dimension from the outer edge of one leaf to the outer edge of the other when the hinge is fully open.

The countersink is a bit shallow. Using a #6 screw the head still pokes above the hinge by 1mm. Not sure whether smaller screws would work. But the benefit of the shallow countersink is that the holes are all countersunk on both sides. The steel feels tough like it will hold up to a lot of wear. The hinge is smooth.A couple other things to note. The hinge arrived in a very beat up box, with no packaging inside, though luckily for me the hinge hadn't bent. Others might not be as lucky. I'd suggest to the maker to at least put some styrofoam end caps to keep it from shooting out of the box. Once I took the hinge out of the box I noticed cheap masking tape wrapped around the middle to keep the hinge shut during shipping, but it leaves a sticky residue when you take it off. Better have some adhesive remover handy. If none of the above bothers you, it seems like sturdy metal and a strong hinge.Nice product except screw holes are not tapered for use with tapered screws to get a flush fit. This is a good well made hinge. I've used them before. There is one problem though. It came pretty bent up. Small fairly sharp bends in the middle of the hinge. I managed to pound it flat for use but I wish it was flatter. The strange thing is that the bent part is the result of too good packaging. The long cardboard box has no creases or holes in it. So it wasn't bend during shipment. But the hinge was multiple wrapped in bubble wrapped with tons of packaging tape. It looks like it was pulled and bent to get the bubble wrap as thick and tight as it could be before encasing it in wide tape in an effort to make it one solid bubblewrap unit so it wouldn't bend during shipment. Thing is, it caused damage while wrapping it. The two photos show the hinge after doing my best to straighten it out and the unbent box and a portion of the bubblewrap.I'd describe packaging in the 'comment on packaging' area but this item is not listed there....nice looking hinge much better than stock trailer hingeHinge works great. I built a custom entry way bench with a lift up top and this is more than sufficient for that purpose. The hinge will surely support the weight of the top during opening and closing. The steel seems sturdy, it came lightly oiled. The package that it came in is why I subtracted one star. Mine did not come in a tube, it came in a box that was not closed on either end. The hinge was also slightly bent, I guess I would call it "wavy" due to the poor packaging. Like I said, this will go on the inside of a bench, so no need for it to be perfectly straight, but if I did need a hinge that was perfectly straight, I would probably not order it via Amazon because the packaging is hit or miss.Did as I needed. Used it to make a desk that could convert into a draft table.Nicely constructed stainless hinge. I ended up cutting it to fit my application. Instead of cutting one end, I needed the screw holes closer to the edge and had to cut both ends. I just cut between the hinge knuckles using a cutoff wheel and didn't have a problem. Normally you'd want to cut the knuckle where it's marked by a dot or punch pinch. This hinge has those marks but were not in the spots I needed. I cut it where needed and it still works fine, the pin is still mounted firmly and I had no problems whatsoever. I used #6 sized screws but #8 would work too. These Stainless Steel 304 Continuous Hinges were exactly what I needed. They are easy to cut down to the desired length with a hacksaw, and the hinge pin is captive so it will not fall out after the length is cut down. They are also quite strong, with holes for #6 fasteners spaced every 2" apart. I used them to create a large coffee table with a top that folds out to create a kind of lap desk on either side and a recessed, felt-covered space in the middle for playing tabletop rpg games (Dungeons & Dragons, etc.). These were perfect in that application, and sufficiently strong that my almost-2-year-old daughter can stand on one of the folding sides (which are 3 ft. long x 15 in. deep) without a problem.Fit exactly as expected, thick, stainless steel. A lot better price than around here, and more size choice. Recommend! Its installed outside and hope it doesnt rust. But happy with it, so far.Quality piecesGreat productGood product. great price.
