The grade 8 steel hex bolt has a zinc yellow-chromate plated finish and an external hex drive, meets American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B18.2.1 and Society of Automotive Engineers SAE J429 specifications, and is made in USA. Grade 8 steel, composed of quenched and tempered medium carbon alloy steel, is stronger than grade 5 steel and is often used in applications where strength is the primary concern. The material is magnetic. The zinc yellow-chromate plating offers good corrosion resistance. The external hex drive has six flat sides that a wrench can grip to turn the screw from the side, enabling use when there is no space above the head for a driver.Cap screws and hex bolts are threaded fasteners with thick hex-shaped heads that can be used with threaded nuts or in areas with limited clearance above the tapped (threaded) hole. Cap screws have slightly different dimensions than hex bolts and have a washer face underneath their unflanged hex head to act as a large bearing surface against the mating material.

Perfect upgrade to Harbor Freight 20 ton press - 5/8"-11 Fully Threaded 1-1/4" Length. The Harbor Freight press came with 4 long bolts for the head section, which would have never tightened the head section of the press securely, without movement and wiggling. Replaced those 4 bolts with 8 of these bolts and 8 nuts from Amazon. The mounting of the belt attachment required a specific grade and thread count and these fit the need. Normally I would just go down to my local hardware store but they did not carry what I needed. Nice to know Amazon can be relied on to find what I needed for the install job.Bolt came damaged on the end; couldn't thread on the nut; fortunately i have power tools; not sure how somebody damaged a grade-8 bolt but i supposed drop on the floor could do it.High quality bolt, fast delivery and great price - definitely beats rummaging around in your local warehouse hardware store to find that what you want is out of stockNot exactly ideal and not stated in the description.
