Grade 5 steel, composed of quenched and tempered medium carbon steel, is often used in applications where strength is the primary concern. The zinc plating offers corrosion resistance and has a reflective appearance. The square neck prevents the bolt from turning once installed, even when a nut is tightened. These are great grade 5 bolts. Nuts run easily on the threads. I used them to anchor the Heavy Duty Tiedowns Surface Mount D-Ring 6,000 lb. to the bed of my trailer. Just know that this 2.5 inch bolt will have a .25 inches showing when the install is finished. I used a washer, lock washer and grade 5 nylon lock nut when mounting to a standard treated 2x8 / 2x6 trailer deck board.
