The plain finish 18-8 stainless steel sheet metal screw with button head and pin-in-star drive has a Type AB point for forming threads in thin metals between 0.015" and 0.050" thick and resin impregnated plywood, and is made in USA. The Type AB point has the conical tip of a Type A point with the finer spaced threads of a Type B point. The 18-8 stainless steel material provides strength and offers good corrosion resistance in many environments. The material may be slightly magnetic. The button head has short vertical sides similar to a pan head screw, but has a low-profile rounded head instead of a flat top. The large bearing surface of the head reduces the chance of the screw embedding in the fastening material. The pin-in-star drive has a six-pointed indentation with a center pin that resists tampering by requiring a special driver to tighten or loosen the screw.Sheet metal screws, a type of self-tapping screw, have threads down the entire length of the shank for tapping and fastening thin material. What, a review of a screw? Why not. Stainless steel should enable these to last forever, as replacements for the small, chintzy screws that came with the gate lock I recently bought. My "castle" feels much more secure with these un-unscrewable, thicker, stainless 2" screws, instead of the 1", thin, regular steel Phillips screws that came with that lock. Torx drive will foil the average potential invader looking for an easy mark, but torx with pin will stop all but the most committed. Knock on wood.Wish their was a fitted bit included!Good product, good price.
