Product Description

This 316/316L stainless steel dual-certified round tubing is suitable for transport of fluids and gases in chloride environments. The tubing is welded and drawn for a smoother bore than non-drawn welded tubing and a more consistent wall thickness than seamless tubing. It is alloyed with molybdenum and has higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments than 304 stainless steel. The tubing is annealed to restore formability for bending or flaring the tubing and has an operating temperature range of -325 to +1,500 degrees F. This welded and drawn round tubing meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) A269 specifications for quality assurance and is suitable for use in applications such as food and beverage preparation equipment in wash down environments.Metal tubing, also called fractional tubing, is used to transfer liquids, air, or solids, and it is characterized by a round shape and a hollow center. Metal tubing is commonly made with various grades of austenitic stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and titanium materials and their alloys. Construction types include seamless, welded, or welded and drawn. Seamless tubing has no seam or weld point, which enables it to better withstand high pressure and resist corrosion. Welded tubing, made by rolling and welding metal sheet stock, is weaker than and not as rounded as seamless tubing, but it has a more consistent wall thickness for tighter wall tolerances. Welded and drawn tubing, also known as "drawn over mandrel" (DOM), is typically welded tubing that is drawn through a die and over a mandrel to create a smooth inner diameter, which gives the tubing comparable corrosion resistance to seamless tubing while still offering welded tubing's tighter wall tolerances. Compression, vacuum, sanitary, and flared fittings connect tubing or redirect flow in a fluid handling system. Metal tubing is used in HVAC and plumbing systems and for applications in the aerospace, automotive, chemical processing, food and beverage, manufacturing, and medical industries.

There were exactly what I needed, I had purchased a steel 1/4" OD tube, which was the proper size, but the ID was a little small, which I would have had to drill them out to accept my 3/16" rivets, and machine screws, also the 5 mm machine screws. Since I am using these as bushings and making over 100 pieces up to an inch long a lot of time is saved by not having to drill them out. Also the cost was almost a third of the cost of the steel ones.Needed to make a couple of low pressure fuel lines for a marine generator; I wouldn't use a full coil so this length was perfect. Tube came perfectly straight in a huge box. The tube is much stiffer than steel or copper lines however it bends with common hand tools. I had to give it some heat for it to take a flare properly, but it turned out fine. Not mirror finish but not mill finished either, somewhere in between, looks like it would polish nicely. This holds the 'parking rod' fiber rods sold at Home Depot/Lowe's/other box hardware stores. I used a pipe cutter to make 16" segments which I affixed to my motorcycle panniers. I drilled a cross hole an inch from the bottom, and I slip a rod in the tubing, dril and insert a safety wire, add flags, done! Be sure you fasten them well, as the flag whips in the wind and I broke the first fasteners, replacing them with my own 1/8" by 1.5" aluminum rod custom mounts.Great product.Good for light-duty applications. I put 1" caps on this and clamped it to a pole on the aft end of my boat's flybridge, where it is serving as a mounting rail for my TV and SiriusXM antennas. It isn't as highly polished or sturdy as the rest of the boat's brightwork but it is adequate and as-expected.Its not sanitary, but it's good for other applications. This is a first, item was packaged in a capped plastic mailing tube; very nice...Item stated it was 12 inches, came slightly bigger so will need to cut to exact size. item comes with product writing on the tube, stating its specs, size and made in USA, which was easily removed by using a magic eraser. All in all worked well as my recessed towel holder.Great price for quality SS Pipe!
